League
Easthouses BC ... 1 AC Oxgangs Maradona ... 8

Today saw us play our last away game at under 10's (and the season) and after last weeks defeat and hard work at training we hoped the boys would rise to the occasion ... and they didn't disappoint.

The game started well enough and with it being a good sized pitch and flat we were in for a treat as both teams went at it hammer and tongs. AC were first to get the ball in the net from Alexander with a low drilled shot into the corner to take a 1-0 lead. Easthouses were to test Daniel but once again he was on his toes and kept them out. After some cracking passing play from our boys the ball was slipped to Kyle who scored to make it 2-0 - and not long after that we were to increase our lead when Alexander scored his second and our third, 3-0.

The boys now had Easthouses on the back foot but to their credit they didn't let their heads go down and were making a game of it, but they could do nothing when Kyle, who was running the show all over the park, collected the ball and scored his second and our fourth to increase the lead to 4-0.

Easthouses broke through after a mix up by our defence and the ball was played to their forward who turned well and scored to bring it back to 4-1 - this was to give them a lift as they played some good football but any shot was saved well by Daniel in goals - but as they chased their second goal they left gaps at the back and when the ball was played to Alexander he beat the lone defender and scored to give him a hat-trick and give us a 5-1 lead going into the break.
Half-Time :
Easthouses BC .. 1  AC Oxgangs Maradona ... 5

At the break we just asked the boys to keep up the good work and enjoy their last away game, but to watch out as Easthouses now had the extra player on the field. The second half got under way with Easthouses having a real go and they were using the extra man well but our defence and keeper were coping well with any attacks. Once again AC played good football and passed well and the ball was played through to Angus who controlled the ball and slotted it home to give us a 6-1 lead.

The game was getting bogged down in the middle of the park and Easthouses were making a game of it despite the scoreline when the ball was played through to Sam from Kyle who side stepped his marker and scored to give us a 7-1 lead. We were in a good position to change the boys round to give them a wee rest and this paid off when Alexander was brought back on and the ball was slipped to him from Fraser - he ran on to it and hit a cracking shot over the keeper and into the net to make the final score 8-1 to AC.
Full-Time :
Easthouses BC .. 1  AC Oxgangs Maradona ... 8

Despite the scoreline the Easthouses keeper did have a good game as he saved well from both wee Ben and Fraser on numerous occasions - and when their forwards did beat Daniel the ball hit the bar or post - so it was not to be their lucky day but well done to them for sticking to it and not giving up. Thanks to all the parents who came to watch the boys.

Scorers : Alexander 4, Kyle 2, Sam 1, Angus 1

Man of the Match :  Could go to any of the boys as they all played well, but I think Kyle just shades it with another solid display.

League
AC Oxgangs Maradona ... 2 Dunedin BC .. 3

Today saw us at home to Dunedin and once again we had a mixed game of two half's. The game started with both sides having a real go and AC were first to test the keeper when a shot was well saved by him - it was pretty evenly matched with both teams snuffing out one another. A  ball knocked through was missed by Alexander and their forward was onto it, rounded Daniel in goals and was brought down. Dunedin were to take a 1-0 lead from the penalty spot and AC were on the hunt for a goal but found the keeper was having a great time between the sticks.

Once again a ball was played down the same wing and our midfield missed it and Dunedin ran in, passed well and scored to take a 2-0 lead. Our boys were looking tired and were not playing their usual flowing football and a lot of them were not picking up their markers - also the Dunedin defence were coping well with every attack AC had and just before halftime Dunedin had the ball in the net again to give them a 3-0 lead going into the break.
Half-Time :
AC Oxgangs Maradona ... 0  Dunedin BC .. 3

At the break we asked the boys to go back to basics and defend like we know they can and try and plug away and claw something back in the second spell. We started well enough and we were starting to play as a team again and our forwards had a few chances but once again we found the Dunedin keeper saving well.

Once more Dunedin broke through but this time Daniel saved well to keep it at 3-0. After some nice play from midfield the ball was played to Kyle who collected well and drilled a low shot past the keeper to bring it back to 3-1. AC were now playing much better and the defenders were coping better with the forwards leaving them to long range shots which Daniel dealt with no problem.

After a bad fall from big Ben he had to come off and James went on and coped well at the back and when a ball from the back was cleared out it fell to Kyle who played a nice one two and scored our second to bring it back to 3-2. It was turning out to be a cracker of a game and was end to end stuff and in the dying minutes big Ben got the ball and raced in on goals only to see his shot go wide of the post.

Dunedin ran out 3-2 winners but we played much better in the second than we did in the first.
Full-Time : AC Oxgangs Maradona ... 2  Dunedin BC .. 3

Scorers : Kyle 2

Man of the Match :  Kyle - scored twice and tried all game to get the rest of the team going.

League
Tranent .. 1 AC Oxgangs Maradona ... 7

Today saw us away to Tranent on a fine sunny day and a good pitch. W had a few call offs due to illness but still had eight players to choose from and the boys that turned up didn't disappoint.

The game started with both teams having a real go but it was AC who were to draw first blood when a lovely ball was played through to Angus who collected and beat the keeper well to give us a 1-0 lead. It was good to see Daniel back in goals and when Tranent got past the defence they found him on fine form making saves to keep us in front.

Our boys were playing some nice passing from the back and once again the ball was played out to Angus who beat his marker, cut in and scored from a tight angle at the front post, 2-0. AC now had the bit between their teeth and were running the show and Kyle, who was great in midfield, got the ball and scored a cracker to make it 3-0 - and not long after that Angus found himself unmarked and the ball was played to him and he completed his hat-trick to give us a 4-0 lead.

Tranent didn't let their heads go down and were still coming at us with some good play but the boys at the back were playing out of their skins, coping well with everything that came their way. Just before the break a loose ball came out to Alexander on the edge of the box and he drilled in a low shot past the keeper to make it 5-0 and a few minutes later up pops Angus again to score his fourth and our sixth going into halftime.
Half-Time :
Tranent .. 1  AC Oxgangs Maradona ... 6

At the break we asked the boys just to keep up the good work and watch out as Tranent now had the extra player on the park. As the second period started Tranent went up the park and nearly scored so this was what we had said for them to watch out for. The Tranent coach must have given them a real good talking to as they were beginning to get a grip on the game and were closing our boys down really well and were coming back into the game.

After some good passing from our boys Alexander got the ball just over the halfway line and let rip with a shot that sailed right over the keepers head and into the back of the net to give us a 7-0 lead - and from the kick off Tranent were to attack again only to see Daniel turn their shot around the post.

All credit to Tranent they were giving it a real go and this paid of when their forward's shot was saved by Daniel who couldn't hold the shot and it fell to one of their boys who buried it well to bring it back to 7-1. The rest of the game was played with both sides having attacks but both keepers were on top form and Tranent were definitely the better side in the second half as we only managed to score once - so credit to them for sticking to the task.
Full-Time :
Tranent .. 1  AC Oxgangs Maradona ... 7

Thank you to all the parent who came to watch the boys - they appreciate your support

Scorers : Angus 4, Kyle 1, Alexander 2.

Man of the Match :  All the boys played well but this week it goes to Angus - not because he scored 4 but he has lifted his game really well over the past few weeks, well done.

League
AC Oxgangs Maradona ... 9 Cramond .. 2

Tonight saw us play Cramond BC in a rearranged fixture cancelled from Sunday as we were at Silloth.  Daniel's mum phoned to say The Cat had a cold and Fraser's dad also phoned to say he was still sore from the weekend. A big thank you to Jamie for agreeing to go in goals for us, and although he didn't have much to do, he played well enough.

The game started with the boys looking forward to being back on home ground and were passing the ball about well. After a ball was played through to Kyle he turned well and scored to give us a 1-0 lead. Cramond were giving it a go but with us having a stand-in keeper we asked Raymond and big Ben to protect him and play well - they didn't disappoint - coping very well with everything Cramond threw at them. Not long after, the ball was played by Sam through the midfield and Kyle got on the end of it to score his second and give us a 2-0 lead.

The game was evenly matched when Alexander collected the ball in his own half and beat his marker and shot from just over the halfway line which beat their keeper to give us a 3-0 lead. Not long after that wee Ben got the ball turned well and his shot was going into the bottom corner only to see Angus pop up and toe-poke it into the net. Angus claimed it but I think it was going in anyway so I will leave them to fight it out as to who claims it. Cramond played well out off midfield and their through ball beat our defence and the forward got onto it to score and bring it back to 4-1 at halftime.
Half-Time :
AC Oxgangs Maradona ... 4  Cramond .. 1

At the break we asked the boys to keep up the hard work but you could see a few of them were beginning to tire as their weekend was catching up with them - but thankfully we had subs to use and give them a wee rest.

Cramond came out for the second half with their tails up and gave it a real go but our boys at the back were coping well and sticking to the task. After a ball was played through from the midfield Josh shot, only to see the keeper save and parry it out to the feet of Angus who scored to give us a 5-1 lead. AC were now playing the passing game and it all looked good when the ball was played to James who chased well, beat their defender and drilled a low shot past the keeper to give us a 6-1 lead.

Cramond won a corner and when the ball was whipped in it beat everyone and went in at the back post to pull it back to 6-2. From the kick-off AC went up the park and the ball was played to Josh who scored to make it 7-2. Cramond to their credit didn't let their heads go down and were giving a good account of themselves digging in and making it hard for us. Sam, who had been playing well, got the ball and beat his marker and scored to make it 8-2 - and in the dying minutes Kyle, who was playing really well, scored to complete his hat-trick and give AC a final score of 9-2 on the night.
Full-Time :
AC Oxgangs Maradona ... 9  Cramond .. 2

Scorers: Kyle 3, Alexander 1, James 1, Josh 1, Sam 1, Angus 2 ( wee Ben might claim one of them!)

Man of the Match :  Once again the boys all played well for each other but I think Kyle just edged it for the way he played and scored a hat-trick.

Solway Classic Tournament - Silloth 24 & 25 May 2008
Under 10s Maradona

We took the boys down to Silloth for a tour as a thank you for all their hard work over the season. They really enjoyed the trip and can I just say how well they behaved they were - on and off the pitch - they were a credit to AC Oxgangs and their parents.

We finished 4th out of seven teams so we did well. As the tournament was held in England some of the boys we played against would actually qualify as under 11's in Scotland - but it was pleasing to see that we matched them for pace and skill. Although the weather was kind with it staying dry, the wind that blew down the pitch made it a lottery for both teams - well done to all the boys who were a credit to their various clubs.

All the coaches would like to say to the squad, "We hope you enjoyed the trip and particularly the swimming ... not to mention all the sweets you ate also the amusements!" We are all looking forward to repeating it on another trip in the future.

Below are the results and scorers. We hope to have some photos uploaded soon but if any parents would like to purchase official photographs from the organisers Click Here

League
Calvery Park ... 0 AC Oxgangs Maradona ... 3

Today saw us away to Calvery Park after a great day at the FunDay yesterday - there were a few parents missing, I think due to hangovers (no names!). We hoped that the boys hadn't burnt themselves out with all the fun the day before ... but this was to see them play their best football all season.

The game started with both teams having a real go and AC were pinning Calvery in their own half and they were finding it difficult to shake off their markers. AC were first to have shot at goals but the keeper was on hand to save from Fraser. Sam and Kyle were running the show in midfield passing the ball very well to their team-mates and in one particular move the ball broke to Alexander who controlled it well and drilled an unstoppable shot low into the net to give us a 1-0 lead.

Calvery were having a go and, when they did beat Raymond and Ben in defence, they found Daniel was on top form saving well from their attackers. After some neat play from the back the ball was played through and Angus got on the end of it and his shot was saved by the keeper  who spilled it back out - Angus's persistence paid off when he drilled home to give us a 2-0 lead. The rest of the half was played out with Calvery having a few shots but once again Daniel was on his toes saving well.
Half-Time :
Calvery Park ... 0  AC Oxgangs Maradona ... 2

At the break we asked the boys to keep up the good work and keep to the task of marking up and keep up the solid display. Fraser twice broke through only to see his shots hit the bar and the post and their keeper also saved a few shots to keep the score down.

On one occasion when Daniel was beaten the ball stuck the bottom of the post and was cleared well by Ben - it looked like Calvery's luck was not going to shine on them today. The game was pretty evenly matched and was turning into a midfield battle when a ball was played through by Sam to Fraser, who passed to wee Ben, who beat his marker well and scored to give us a 3-0 lead.

The rest of the game was played out with both teams having attacks but both keepers were saving well and AC ran out 3-0 winners on the day. Well done to Calvery for sticking to the task and not letting their heads go down. Also well done to our boys for putting on a great game for all who came to watch.
Full-Time :
Calvery Park ... 0  AC Oxgangs Maradona ... 3

Scorers: Alexander 1, Angus 1, wee Ben 1

Man of the Match :  This week we could pick any of the boys but once again Daniel in goals gets it - didn't have much to do but when he did, he saved well.

League
AC Oxgangs Maradona ... 4 Spartans FC White ... 1

Today saw us at home to Spartans White on another fine day for football and both teams looked up for it. AC won the kick-off and started well enough, passing the ball around and when they got forward we found the Spartans keeper on fine form pulling off great saves from the boys.

Spartans were now getting to grips with the game and were picking up our boys and snuffing out the attacks and they were to draw first blood when a nice ball was played through our defence and their forward collected and scored to give them a 1-0 lead. It was backs to the wall stuff as they put us under pressure but Daniel in goals was on his toes keeping them from increasing their lead.

After some good midfield play from our lot the ball was played to Angus and his shot was saved, but the keeper could only parry it back to him and his fight and determination saw him score to bring it back to 1-1. The rest of the half was played out with both teams having chances, but both keepers were saving well to keep the honours even.
Half-Time : AC Oxgangs Maradona ... 1  Spartans White ... 1

At the break we asked the boys once again to keep up the hard work and we brought on Alexander and Kyle who had been rested.  As the second half got under way we were more in control - not long into the game the ball was passed well from defence to midfield and through to wee Ben who turned well and scored to give us a 2-1 lead.

Spartans were now chasing the game trying to find that second goal but once more Daniel was up to the task saving well to keep our noses in front.  With Spartans playing so far up a ball was played through and Sam collected and beat the defence well and scored to give us a 3-1 lead. We were now bringing the subs into the frame as the boys were getting tired as it was so warm.  With the subs getting a wee rest it was to pay off when Alexander got the ball and scored to give us a 4-1 lead - he has been scoring well since he bought his new boots - a goal a game so when he doesn't score I will put them in the bin!

The rest of the game was played out with both keepers having more saves to make but the score was to stay at 4-1 and give us another victory - thanks to all who came to watch.
Full-Time : AC Oxgangs Maradona ... 4  Spartans White ... 1

Scorers: Angus 1, Wee Ben 1, Sam 1, Alexander 1

Man of the Match :  All the boys played well but this week it goes to Daniel in goals - didn't have much to do but, when called upon, done his job well.

League
Fernieside BC ... 2 AC Oxgangs Maradona ... 3

Today saw us away to Fernieside on a glorious sunny day, the best this year yet, playing on a small pitch with quite long grass. Both teams looked up for this one and they didn't disappoint the watching crowd.

The game started with both teams trying to stamp their mark on the proceedings and it was Fernieside who were first to test Daniel in goals but he saved well from their forward. Fernieside were showing that they were very strong at the back and their defender was winning everything we threw at them - but on one occasion Alexander received the ball on the wing and his cross, deep into the box, beat everyone and hit the back post and went in to give us a lucky 1-0 lead.

It was getting very tight in midfield and a ball was played through to one of their forwards and we didn't clear and he scored to bring it back to 1-1.  And about ten minutes later they once again broke through and scored again to take a 2-1 lead. AC had their chances but the Fernieside keeper was playing out of his skin with one save after another and our boys were beginning to wonder if they could get the ball past him again.
Half-Time :
Fernieside BC ... 2  AC Oxgangs Maradona ... 1

At the break we asked the boys to keep plugging away as they were doing everything right but not taking their chances and putting the ball in the net. The second half started at the same pace as the first with both keepers being tested, but they came up with the goods, saving well.

After Fernieside won a corner our defence cleared the ball out and Sam picked it up and played the ball out to Angus on the wing - his cross into the box was picked up by wee Ben who turned well and shot past the keeper to bring it back level 2-2. Fraser come back on and, as in the first half with his running and shots on goal (which were all saved), he was again causing them more problems with his runs down the wing. This was allowing us to get into the box more as two players were covering him every time he got the ball.

Fernieside were proving to be a pain for our defenders not giving them any time on the ball and we were making a few mistakes in clearing our lines - they were coming right back at us but the boys done well closing them down. With about five minuets to go Sam once again received the ball in midfield and saw James unmarked up front and played an inch perfect pass to him. He ran on to it and, with the defender chasing him and me shouting from the sidelines, the keeper came out to close him down but he curled a great shot round him and into the net to give us a 3-2 lead.

It was backs to the wall stuff now as Fernieside threw everything at us - but credit to our lads they dug deep and held out until the final whistle to scrape a narrow victory.
Full-Time :
Fernieside BC ... 2  AC Oxgangs Maradona ... 3

This was one of the best games I've watched for a while and full marks to Fernieside for a brilliant display and making it a cracker for all who came to watch.

Scorers: Alexander, Ben, James.

Man of the Match :  All the boys played well and for each other - Sam for his passing, Fraser for his running, but we thought Ben at the back was once again our saviour on a few occasions, so he picks it up again.

AC Oxgangs Maradona ... 6 Loanhead BC ... 1

Today saw us at home to Loanhead on a cold and windy day but thankfully dry - another good sign was both Raymond and Sam were back after their injuries and illness.

The game started, and with the wind blowing across the pitch, neither team had the advantage and both set about the business of playing football.  AC had a lot of possession but Loanhead were putting up a great fight and the boys were finding it hard to get into the Loanhead box - when they did their keeper was on his toes saving well from our boys.

Eventually the ball was played out to the wing to Alexander who turned inside and drilled a low shot into the corner past the keeper to give us a 1-0 lead.  From the kick-off Loanhead went up the park and forced Daniel to make a good save to keep our noses in front.  After some good passing from AC the ball was played through to Kyle who beat his marker and scored to give us a 2-0 lead.  Not long after that Josh got on the score sheet to increase our lead to 3-0.

Loanhead were attacking and showed some good football but Ben in defence was playing out of his skin mopping up most of their attacks.  Just before the break a long ball from Ben at the back was played on to Kyle who once again beat his marker and scored his second and our 4th to
