AC Oxgangs Blacks ... 5 Cramond BC ... 7
|
|
Today we had Cramond up for a game that turned out to be a cracker - and it was Cramond who drew first blood taking a 1-0 lead after some sloppy defending. But the team rolled up their sleeves and got stuck in. AC played the ball well and a nice pass forward found James unmarked and he drilled in a shot to bring it back to 1-1 After that,
AC seemed to press the self-destruct button and lose all shape and after a 10 minute spell found themselves 4-1 down and we were left wondering what happened. Just before the break a nice ball was played through to Josh and his pass found Jack who scored to make it
2-4 at the break. At the team talk we asked the boys to keep it tight and not wander out of position and keep a eye on their markers. Both teams came out fighting and it was Cramond who were to score another two goals before Josh pulled one back to bring it back to 6-3. AC were slowly getting back into it when Cramond went up the park and scored to make it 7-3. After some encouragement from the sidelines the team got back into their stride and Robbie broke free unmarked and scored to bring it back to 7-4. It was backs to the wall stuff for Cramond as AC were now playing with grit and determination and once again we got the ball in the box and Jack popped up to score to make it 7-5. The rest of the game was played out with both teams having attacks but no more goals scored and
Cramond ran out 7-5 winners. Scorers : Jack 2, James 1, Robbie 1, Josh 1. Man of the Match : Mark in goals - despite the score he played out of his skin - closely followed by Jacob. Brian Lee |

Edinburgh South ... 5 AC Oxgangs Blacks ... 5
|
|
Today saw our new team play Edinburgh South - I was there to take charge as Colin and James were doing their Early Touches coaching certificates. It was ES who were to score first as the defence were dragged all over the place, 1-0. AC were now getting into the game but it was ES who were to score a second when they once again beat the defence, 2-0. AC did manage to get into the box but
Ben's shot was well saved by the keeper and from his clearance the ball was knocked past the defence and into the net to make it 3-0.
AC were now starting to play better and getting more involved and were getting into the box more, but once again the midfield and defence didn't talk to each other and ES scored one more to make it
4-0. From the kick off the ball was played well between midfield and the forwards and Ben collected the ball
and rounded the keeper to score to bring it back to 4-1 at the break. At the break I said to them to keep their shape at the back and not get dragged all over the place and said that they were playing well enough to get more out of the game. The second half started with both teams having a real go and AC were attacking and getting into the box more, only to see ES win the ball, go up the park, and score an easy goal, 5-1. After moving things about at the back it was much tighter and ES were finding it more difficult to break us down and as we broke up the park a cross played into the box was turned into the net by their defender to bring it back to 5-2. AC were now getting up the park more and ES were now the ones having to defend and Josh won the ball and drilled a low shot into the net to bring it back to 5-3. It was now turning into a cracking game with both teams giving it a real go and it was AC who had the ball in the net when Ben scored his second. In the last five minuets
AC had ES on the back foot and what a cheer went up when Jack scored to bring it
level at 5-5. Well done to the team the way they fought back and all the parents who came to watch. Scorers : Ben 2, Josh 1, Jack 1, OG 1. Man of the Match : Ben played well and tried his best all game. Brian Lee |

AC Oxgangs Blues ... 3 Cavalry Park SC ... 12
|
|
Today saw us at home to Cavalry Park and these games are normally pretty close, but today it all went wrong for AC and we were on the end of a real lesson in how not to defend. The game started with both teams giving it a real go and CP were first to score, 1-0.
AC were having their fare share of attacks but the goalkeeper was on fine form making one save after another and keeping us
out. Our boys were defending far too deep and CP were playing balls from the wing to just outside the box and they were scoring goals from high shots into the
net. CP were to take a 5-0 lead into the break and our boys wondering what had happened. We told the midfield not to sit so deep in the box as they had a free role from the edge of the box - the second half started with us on the back foot again and still sitting to deep and before to long we were 9-0 down losing some of the softest goals we've ever lost. Ben in defence was not playing today and we put Alexander at the back which did weaken the midfield as Kyle was doing all the work and was getting tired, so we moved Alexander up to help out Kyle and what a difference it made as we went on to score when Kyle beat the defence to make it 9-1. Not long after that Alexander got the ball on the wing and cut inside and let rip with a shot that the keeper had no chance with, 9-2 We were now chasing more goals and CP won the ball and broke up the field and scored again to make it
10-2. At this point our boys were dead on their feet and the heads went down quite quick and CP were to go on and score another two before a scramble in the CP box saw Dan pop up and score the last goal of the game. Scorers : Kyle 1, Alexander 1, Dan 1. Man of the Match : Kyle, as he ran his heart out all day and a special mention to Daniel in goals despite the score he played well enough. Brian Lee |

AC Oxgangs Blues ... 13 Edina Hibs ... 1
|
|
Today saw us at home to Edina Hibs and it was good to see wee Coner back playing for Edina after leaving us when he moved out of the area. The game started with AC on the attack and it wasn't long before we had the ball in the net after Fraser collected the ball and scored, 1-0. Not long after that Kyle won the ball and beat his marker and scored to give us a 2-0 lead. Our new boy, wee Dan, was playing well and he was to be rewarded with two quick goals to give us a 4-0 lead and after that Tam scored another two to increase our lead to 6-0. Edina were now playing with the extra man and we were coping very well and Fraser was to score his
second and, just before the break, Tam scored one more to give us a 8-0 lead at half time. At the break we told the boys to keep up the good work and go back out and enjoy themselves. Daniel in goals didn't have much to do but when called upon he coped well with anything that came his way. AC were back on the attack and Tam once again scored another two to take our lead to 10-0. Edina had now lost all shape and our boys were finding it easy to break them down and wee Dan popped up, rounded his marker and scored to make it 11-0. We took a few of the boys off to give them a rest and tried players out in other positions - Alexander collected the ball and played a one-two and his shot flew into the top corner to give us a 12-0 lead. Josh, who is coming on leaps and bounds, got the ball and beat the defender to score to bring it to 13-0. At last the Edina boys beat our defence and their forward drilled the ball low into the net and both sets of parents were cheering for
them. I think Edina should move down a league and come back stronger - good luck to them. Scorers : Tam 5, Dan 3, Fraser 2, Kyle 1, Alexander 1, Josh 1 Man of the Match : A hard one to call as all the boys played well, but wee Dan gets it as this was his first run out and he coped very well. Musselburgh Windsor ... 7 AC Oxgangs Blues ... 5
|
|
Today saw us away to Musselburgh Windsor and the rain held off as we kicked off on a very small tight pitch and both teams looked up for a great game. It started with both sides giving it a real go and it was Windsor who were to take the lead with some slack defending and not clearing our lines quick enough, 1-0. The boys dug in and after some good passing the ball was played through to Fraser who headed the ball into the net to bring it back to 1-1. With Ben back this week we moved Alexander back into midfield and this paid off when he won the ball and curled a great shot into the net to give us a 2-1 lead. Not long after that Fraser was to score his second and our third to increase our lead and when a nice passing move was played out to Alexander on the wing his cross found Angus on the goal line unmarked to score and make it 4-1. Windsor were now coming at us more and their player got the ball just over the halfway line and his shot was drilled through and no one cleared it and an unsighted Daniel saw the ball at the last minute and could only watch as the shot bounced over
him - this was to make it 4-2 and the rest of the half was played out with both teams having attacks but no more goals. The second half saw AC playing up a slope worse than Easter Road and despite the torrential showers of rain AC started the half very well. After settling into a good passing rhythm Kyle found Alexander wide on the right hand side of the safety zone who, after beating his marker, convincingly drilled the ball into the bottom corner at the far post. Unfortunately for AC it all then started to go very wrong. Climbing the slope obviously took its toll on the boys legs and uncharacteristic mistakes led to the lads conceding 5 goals in the space of 15 minutes all of which would, on a normal day, have been dealt with comfortably. As it was, the boys found themselves 7-5 down with 10 minutes to play and despite working hard and creating several good chances it was not their day and Alexander hitting the bar was the closest we could come to mounting a come-back. At the full-time whistle it was a very disappointing result for the lads who played some excellent football at times, broken up by the lads switching their concentration off leading to 5 minor disasters. Scorers : Fraser 2, Alexander 2, Angus Man of the Match : Ben - another great diplay! Brian Lee/Mikey Gowans |

AC Oxgangs Blues ... 5 Bonnyrigg Rose Blues ... 4
|
|
Today saw the boys opening game of the Pele leagues' under 11's season at home to Bonnyrigg Blues. The boys started the game well and immediately settled into a passing rhythm. After missing several good chances the boys where caught on the counter attack by Bonnyrigg who broke quickly and scored leaving Daniel with no chance in goal, 0-1. The lads reacted well to this set-back and continued to play some excellent football. The boys were rewarded when Sam collected the ball just inside the Bonnyrigg half and beat two defenders before striking the ball well into the bottom corner of the net, 1-1. Sam scored his second after some excellent work on the right hand-side from Fraser who beat two defenders and the goalkeeper before cutting the ball back to Sam who tapped the ball into an empty net. Sam then scored two almost identical
goals - Alexander played the through ball into the path of Sam who scored his third by placing the ball into the bottom right corner, 3-1 and his fourth into the bottom left corner, 4-1. The second half saw Bonnyrigg starting very well and the lads, who were without substitutes, beginning to tire. Bonnyrigg scored two early goals and looked the better team with 20 minutes to play, 4-3. Both goalkeepers then made at least 3 outstanding saves each keeping their team's in the game. Bonnyrigg eventually managed to beat Daniel bringing the scores level and both teams looked as though they where going to settle for the draw, 4-4. With a couple of minutes remaining Daniel threw the ball to Raymond and AC started an excellent passing move in which every player had a part to play before Sam threaded the ball through to Kyle who in one move beat the last defender and the goalkeeper before slotting the ball into an empty net. It was a great performance by the boys who all worked extremely hard and ran from start to finish without complaint. Scorers : Sam 4, Kyle 1 Man of the Match : Sam (a great performance playing alone up front and scoring four to himself and setting up the winner for Kyle) Brian Lee |

AC Oxgangs Blacks ... 8 Bonnyrigg Rose Reds ... 8
|
|
Today saw our new squad and new season kick-off at home against Bonnyrigg Rose and what a cracker it turned out to be. The game started with both teams giving it a real go and the team were quickly getting to know each others strengths and what it was all about. But it was Bonnyrigg who were to draw first blood and take a 1-0 lead. To their credit the heads didn't go down and after some good play in midfield a pass from Amy found Angus and his cross was put in by Ben to bring it back to 1-1. Bonnyrigg were finding it easy in midfield to spray the ball about and as the team were trying to sort it all out Bonnyrigg had the ball in the net to take a 2-1 lead. Colin was getting all the
players sorted from the sideline but it was Bonnyrigg who were to go on and score another two to take a 4-1 lead into halftime. At the break Colin got the kids organised and told them were it was going wrong and to their credit they took it on board as they went out in the second half. Before long Angus had the ball in the net to bring it back to 4-2. Jacob and Blair were now working really well at the back mopping up most of Bonnyrigg's attacks and the midfield were passing a lot better and Ben once more got the ball and drilled a low shot passed their keeper to bring it back to 4-3. After another Bonnyrigg attack the ball was cleared and Ben made a cracking pass which found Angus who ran on and scored to bring it back to
4-4. The team now had the bit between their teeth and between Angus and Ben they had now raced into an 8-4 lead with both getting on the score sheet. Bonnyrigg brought on the extra player and as we had no subs on the day we were beginning to look tired and Bonnyrigg used the extra man to their advantage and brought the scores
level before the end of the game. As this was the first time they had all played together we can see it coming together quicker than we thought - well done to all the players who put on a good game for all who came to watch. Scorers : Angus 5, Ben 3 Man of the Match : Close one to call, but I thought Jacob at the back played really well - so it goes to him. Brian Lee |
