Haddington United FC Swifts ... 1 AC Oxgangs ... 3
Having soundly beaten the Swifts earlier in the season the biggest concern for AC may have been complacency. On a bright but breezy day there was not going to be a lot of silky soccer and in the initial stages it was more a game of strong challenges and tackles. The first real chance fell to AC when Jamie S made space down the wing and put a great ball through to Jamie H who missed from close range. A goal was soon to come when Mikey floated an excellent free kick for Jamie H to head in. The second goal came after a quick throw from Russell to Jamie S who was quick to react. Number three follow shortly after when Russell played a neat one two with Jamie H before putting it away. Going into the second half it was going to be tough playing into the wind but it was AC who started as they had finished the first 45 by creating a few good chances including a one on one opportunity for Jamie S. Despite all the hustle and bustle there were to be no more goals from AC although the home team managed a last minute consolation when a header from Ewan was cruelly judged to have crossed the line. ACO Man of the Match : Jamie S for some strong wing play creating good chances and a well taken goal. |

Cruden Bowl 2nd Round
AC Oxgangs ... 6 Spartans FC ... 1
AC started well with some nice passing play creating some early chances. The first goal eventually came after a great pass from Scott that Jamie H finished off. The home team should have started to ease away but Spartans managed to score on the third attempt in quick succession. Chances kept on coming for AC with Steve shooting straight at the keeper and Ryan putting one over the bar. The second goal for AC came when Gary played in Scott who crossed for Stuart to finish. A third came before half time followed when Jamie H set up Mikey to slot home. The second half started in controversy after Spartans were awarded a penalty. The first two attempts - one miss and one score - were disallowed for encroachment before Matt pulled off a fine safe from the third effort. Shortly after, ACO were themselves awarded a penalty when Warren was brought down when bearing down to goal. And It was Warren who duly put it away. Warren again set up the fifth after a looping cross hit the bar and fell to Scott to finish. And the sixth came after a great move with Stuart heading on to Steve who laid it off for Ewan to score. A fine finish to a comfortable win for the home side. ACO Man of the Match : Scott for creating some great chances with measured passes and crosses. |

AC Oxgangs ... 1 Musselburgh Windsor Colts ... 2
ACO started well with early chances falling to Jamie and Stuart. A well worked move involving Ryan and Stuart set up Jamie to slot away the first goal for AC. The home team should had have ended the half 2 up but for the Windsor goalie saving by sticking out his foot. Just into the second half AC wasted another chance with Stuart firing over the bar when one on one with the goalie. AC were to rue the missed chances with Musselburgh pouncing on loose balls to scored twice and take the points. ACO Man of the Match : Warren for a solid and hard working performance throughout the match. |

Bob Bankier Cup 1st Round
Musselburgh Windsor ... 8 AC Oxgangs ... 0
There really was only one team in this game with the home team providing a fine display of strong, quick passing football, and while ACO battled hard in the first half the floodgates were bound to open. The first goal came out the blue with a thunderbolt shot from 18 yards into the top right corner. It took a world class save from Matt to stop a certain header from making it 2-0. Strong play and weak defending allowed Musselburgh to score another two through the middle before half time. The second half was pretty much one way traffic with a masterclass in passing leading to goal after goal. The one AC chance fell to Mikey after a good cross from Jamie, but his shot just squeezed past the post. The seventh goal came from a poorly defended free kick and the eighth in the last few minutes when the AC heads were well and truly down. ACO Man of the Match : Jamie S was probably the best of the beaten bunch. |

Haddington Athletic FC ... 3 AC Oxgangs ... 3
On a bright and breezy day this was not a game for the purists. ACO scored the only goal of the first half with Darryn putting away a loose ball following a free kick from Jamie. Much more action was to come in the second half. Jamie and Mikey started the second half well creating a series of chances with good runs down both wings. Shoogs also had two good chances with his head – one which looped over. The other was saved point blank off the line by the keeper. Just as you thought the goal was going to come for AC it was Haddington who scored next after an innocent high ball was poorly defended and punished by a goal. With Haddington lifted two more goals quickly followed – first when Ben deflected a hard low cross into his own goal then the third goal came when a speculative high cross caught Matt out. All of a sudden now 3 – 1 down ACO quickly fought back and their efforts were rewarded when Shoogs put away a header then Andy cracked home a third from short range. The last minute equaliser almost deserved the yellow card Andy was shown for celebrating with a Ronaldo style strip! ACO Man of the Match : Gary – for a solid performance in the middle of the defence. |

City Financial Edinburgh - South East Region Cup 2nd Round
AC Oxgangs ... 0 Edina Hibs ... 8
Maybe it was the chilly, sodden conditions but AC simply never got the motor running in this South East Region tie and were left stranded at the kerb side and out of the cup, 4-0 down, after only 35 minutes, with their visitors miles over the horizon zooming down the road into the next round. As both sides struggled at the start to get anything coherent together in the Meggetland gales there was little to warm the sparse crowd in the opening exchanges. But with 15 minutes on the clock Edina took advantage of some sleepy AC defending to sneak in at the back post, take the lead and set the pattern for the rest of the day. AC were really their own worst enemies as slack passing and irresolute defending gave the visitors the next two goals. And when a misdirected header squirmed in at the back post to make it four the match as a contest was over. AC showed a bit of enterprise at the start of the second half and might have scored themselves but more casual, loose defending opened the door once again for Edina to score a fifth on the hour, and three further goals followed at regular intervals as the young AC heads dropped. At times AC showed some real quality going forward and were able to create a series of openings - Stuart had a couple of one on ones with the keeper, and Mickey ended a flowing sequence of passes with a shot into the side netting that would have resulted in the goal of the season. But, in truth, the scoreline was a pretty accurate barometer of events, reading wet and windy for AC. AC will bounce back from this, but will need to show more character when they come up against First Division opposition in future. ACO Man of the Match : Matty made a number of good saves, but Jamie just edges it for his tireless work rate. |

AC Oxgangs ... 8 Haddington United Swifts ... 2
AC threatened to break all records after racing into a four-goal lead in only 18 minutes with a breathtaking brand of free-flowing football. The lads were a delight to watch as each of the goals were perfectly constructed and requiring only simple finishes after bewildering sequences of finely tuned passes and movements. Mikey scored the first after Stuart reacted to his run and shout with a deft lay off. Stuart and Darryn then carved Haddington's left side open to put in Steven, who finished with ease. Stuart himself scored the next two after more fine build-up work: the first from a perfectly placed Jamie cross, and the second from a Darryn through ball that was just too cute for Haddington's hapless offside trap. Four goals to the good, AC suddenly stopped doing what they had being doing so well - passing and moving the ball quickly, efficiently and directly - and started to over-elaborate. This let Haddington off the hook, and it was no surprise when the visitors recovered some ground with a cheap goal from a poorly defended corner. This gave the Swifts a lift and the half ended with no further scoring and AC doing too much defending given their evident superiority. Indeed, when Haddington scored immediately after the break there were a few wee nervous twitters in the AC camp. But, the lads, to their credit, regained their grip on the game and the football was soon flowing smoothly once again. It was no surprise then when Darryn extended AC's lead with a fine volley from a cross from the left. Stuart grabbed his hat trick with a clinical finish after a strong run. Scott came off the bench to score neatly with poise. And Stuart rounded things off with a powerful volley high into the roof of the net as the visitors visibly wilted under what had become a relentless onslaught. It would be carping to suggest that AC need to defend better given the quality of football on display today; however, it needs to be said that the team will come across stronger opposition than Haddington Swifts. ACO Man of the Match : Plenty of candidates including Stuart for his master class in leading the line, but Mikey for his all-round display and tireless work just shades it. |

Royal Edinburgh Cup 1st Round
Musselburgh Windsor ... 5 AC Oxgangs ... 2
In a largely scrappy match with little good football the home team deserved the win and if anything the final score line flattered AC. The first goal for Windsor came after a close call for offside. AC had a few half chances which fell to Stuart , Ryan and Jamie but none was converted. The home team second goal came when an unlucky bounce beat Matt. Number three came from a badly defended corner and the fourth and fifth following from poor midfield play from AC. Perhaps the fire alarm ringing in the clubhouse promoted a bit of a fightback from AC who scored two clever consolation goals from Stuart in the last 10 minutes. ACO Man of the Match : Stuart for scoring the two goals which saved our blushes. |

Federation of Hibs Suporters Cup 1st Round
Eskmill BC ... 5 AC Oxgangs ... 3
(after extra time)
ACO were first out the blocks when some neat interplay with Warren and Mikey set up a half volley from Ryan to score in the first few minutes. And it could have been two shortly after when Ryan hit the post. Apart from that, and some tough tackling, there was not much more action in the first half other than Matt smothering a one-on-one chance that fell to Eskmill. Shortly after the restart a Mikey cross was nodded down by Stuart for Jamie to finish off. Chances started to fall to both sides and Matt had to be at his best to save a free kick. A hand ball led to an AC penalty, which, unusually, was not converted by Warren. Having missed the opportunity to go three goals ahead the AC heads seem to go down and Eskmill started to develop confidence and they soon scored with a close range header. AC had a chance to re-establish a two-goal lead when Stuart hit the bar. However, Eskmill grabbed the equaliser when a long ball caught out the AC defence. The Eskmill third goal came when a half chance from a corner was eventually deflected in. AC showed character and some great football to draw level again when a Ewan chip picked out Jamie who cut back for Andy to score and take the match to extra time. With both Jamie and Mikey injured and the two subs already used the next half hour was always going to be tough; and so it proved with Eskmill scoring two goals within a few minutes of the restart. Chances fell to both teams before the end, but Eskmill kept the two goal advantage to go through to the next round, where we wish them all the best. ACO Man of the Match : Mikey was the best player on the park. |

Scottish Cup 1st Round
AC Oxgangs ... 1 Eskmill BC ... 6
Meggetland was in good nick and the wind and rain stayed away, all making ideal footballing conditions as AC welcomed Eskmill for this Scottish Cup tie - alas, most of the ideal football on show would come from the visitors. That said, 15 minutes into the match AC were totally on top. Pressing the ball high up the park, AC had Eskmill doing a lot of defending, and after a series of corners and free kicks it was no surprise when they took the lead - Stuart S forcing his big marker into the error and an own goal. Eskmill looked a bit shaken but some sloppy defending let them back into the match and at mid-point the visitors were in front by 2-1. Both goals came from crosses that should have been closed down at source. But if Eskmill hadn't done much to earn their lead by that stage, once they were ahead they took a grip on the game and never relented. The final score of 6-1 was not at all flattering, so all the best to Eskmill in the next round. |

Edinburgh City ... 3 AC Oxgangs ... 1
On a tight pitch on a dry but windy night AC started well against strong opposition. Mikey D had one or two decent efforts and Stuart S had a couple of clear opportunities. Andy B hit the post after a great ball through to him and City cleared another chance off the line to keep it all square at the break in a game that was evenly balanced. Early into the second half Gary W had a couple of good chances – one a screamer from 25 yards. However, it was City who scored first with an opportunist header after some indecisive defending. AC broke back quickly with Andy B chipping in the equaliser after being picked out from a free kick. More loose defending and a slack pass allowed the home team to pounce and grab a second. AC battled well to try and get the equaliser but a desperate challenge led to a last minute penalty and goal to City. Man of the Match : Tony L, for a strong and composed performance in the midfield. |

David Murray Memorial Cup First Round
Haddington United Swifts ... 1 AC Oxgangs ... 6
Once again ACO started strong with Andy and Ryan creating early chances from either side. As several chances went begging it was the home side who were first to goal following a largely unchallenged run from half way. This seemed to spur AC into action who still failed to convert until a touch of class from Hogey with a well judged header over the goalie and into the net. ACO should have ended the half ahead but Gary’s left foot shot went over the bar. From the restart it was pretty much AC all the way and soon a through ball to Andy down the wing and a great cross resulted to Stuart crashing it home from close range. Soon after a tackle from behind on Stuart as he was one on one with the goalie resulted in a sending off. A ten man Haddington was always going to find it hard as AC started to play with confidence. Stuart scored his second by latching on to a poor clearance. His hat trick was secured with a glancing header from a well worked cross from Ryan. As the AC dropped a gear Haddington tried hard to get back into the game and Matt pulled off a couple of good saves. The pace improved when Jamie came on as sub and managed a few breakaways and good crosses. Russell scored the 5th following a driving run from the halfway line. The 6th came from Gary who took a couple of touches just outside the box before slotting the ball away. Man of the Match : Has to go to Stuart the hat trick hero – who , in truth could have scored twice as many! |

Cavalry Park SC ... 1 AC Oxgangs ... 5

ACO were keen to erase the memories of the final game of the last season against Cavalry Park in the first game of this season. Any concerns were soon dismissed as AC started strong and even with a few new faces looked a different prospect all together playing with confidence and conviction and no little flair. However, a few early chance were lost as AC misjudged their runs resulting in offsides. Eventually Stuart showed his strength ,broke free and set up Jamie to finish off. Shortly after Andy put Stuart through who narrowly shot wide. A well taken free kick picked out Jamie who coolly slotted it away for his second. As ACO dropped a gear Cavalry pushed forward and Matt was required to pull off an instinctive save. Another long ball caught out Cavalry and this time Andy finished it off to go into the break 3 up. As the second half started both Jamie’s continued to pull the defence apart down each of the wings. A great through ball allowed Andy in to score his second. Duncan came on as sub and was soon causing trouble with shots going close but wide however a neat glancing header from him set up Gary to score goal number 5. With AC cruising it was as a result of slack play which allowed Cavalry in for a consolation goal. Man of the Match : With the defence generally looking rock solid the vote goes to Warren who didn’t put a foot wrong |
