Prestonpans Soccer-Sevens Tournament
Saturday 7 June 2008
|

The ACO Under 9's were delighted to be involved in the annual tournament in Prestonpans on Saturday with ACO being one of eight teams participating in the very well organised event. It was the hottest day of the year by some considerable distance and the lovely weather just added to a fantastic day enjoyed by all. The Under 9's have been under going some transitional changes in the coaching department and with the tournament being the last competitive games of the season it was a fitting end for both Roy and James who has decided to stay in the Pele league next season and will play for Edina Hibs next season, Roy hanging up his coaches jacket after great dedication to ACO over the past few years, both will be missed but this ACO team can look forward to the future with Jim firmly at the helm and he will be aided by another parent stepping in to the breach, more news on that to follow in the coming weeks. With an apparent late call off from another team the tournament took an added twist for ACO when Hutchie were invited to attend at the eleventh hour and with a few familiar faces in the ranks, notably Jack who had only left ACO in the past few weeks, his dad Robin, who alongside Roy had ran this team until recently and ex-player Brandon, there were also familiar faces from the School teams too. With Hutchie being the only Pele league side in the tournament they were the favourites to win the event but due to the late admission they turned up with only six players available. Showing the difference in the two leagues, Hutchie drawing with the hosts in the first game 1-1 but beating Newcraighall Vics 2-1 in their next game - but as luck would have it they managed to field seven players by the time ACO had to face them, another boy being drafted in even later to make their numbers up. The tournament kicked of at 10am with Hutchie lining up against the hosts Preston Athletic, which was a closely contested game, Jack deployed in goals for Hutchie, as mentioned above the game finished 1-1. The second game was Newcraighall Vics .. 2 Windsor Team Real .. 3 For me, the best player in the tournament was a Newcraighall player with curly black hair that had two feet and a fantastic engine, scoring a couple of wonder goals from way out wide on the left, impressing in all their fixtures. Brandon, playing up front for Hutchie, also did well with a couple of wonder goals. So to ACO's first game and the event's third, ACO v Preston Athletic. ACO did very well competing in all area's but unlucky to lose 0-1. Jim, approaching team selection like a democracy with all players enjoying exactly the same game time throughout, kept the boys interested and upbeat and bodes really well for the season to come if these performances are to become the norm in the Mara Dona league. Hutchie got their first win in the fourth tie which finished Hutchie .. 2 Windsor Team Real .. 1 another enjoyable game. The aforementioned Newcraighall star glowed in the fifth tie which, despite ACO's best efforts, finished Newcraighall Vics .. 3 ACO .. 0. Despite the scoreline the game was quite a close affair but ACO had a couple of defensive issues with our players being sucked towards the curly haired lad and he was able to punish us with some deft crossing in to unmarked players in the box - but these are things for the new look coaching team to work on. In the sixth tie, the hosts got their second win in a row when they ran out winners in a thriller that swung back and forward but finished Preston Athletic .. 2 Windsor Team Real .. 1. The seventh tie saw Hutchie back up to full numbers again with the late addition of their seventh player and the numbers prevailed again for this Pele team finishing with their second win in a row too, the game ending at Hutchie .. 4 Newcraighall Vics .. 1 The eighth tie saw ACO get their first win in the competition in an enthralling game against the boys from the Honest Toun that had everything - the beating sun was playing it's part too with Rory lucky to not to find his name being taken, picking up a caution from the ref instead after two rash challenges - but fair play to the diminutive front man, he never played another bad tackle in the rest of the fixtures - in fact he picked up the accolade from Jim of ACO's player of the tournament as his performances of late have seen him notably raising his standard, which also bodes well for the coming season despite the loss of two experienced boys. Others will be expected to step up to the plate and Rory showed definite signs of that on Saturday. James, playing in his penultimate fixture for ACO, scored a really good goal after some lovely passing football that led to him finding a good bit of space in front of goal and he did exceptionally well with his execution. ACO were left to hang on a bit at times as a resurgent Windsor, who weren't about to lie down, came roaring back after the goal but ACO dug in really well to claim a really good result that delighted everyone - the boys got a great lift from the victory, ACO .. 1 Windsor Team Real .. 0 In the ninth tie the hosts ran out victorious again despite the best efforts of the impressive lad in the Newcraighall team, the game finishing Preston Athletic .. 1 Newcraighall Vics .. 0, again very entertaining. The tenth and last game of the event saw ACO pitting there wits against an unbeaten Hutchie side that as mentioned previously, we knew so much about, the boys keen to do well against some old adversaries but luck didn't favour ACO in this tie with so many ifs and buts, a couple of early opportunity's scorned and a problem getting the ball from back to front against a strong side proved costly. All the boys played well, Robbie was a thorn in their sides at times, Rory and James probing away, but to no avail, Cameron doing well on the wing, new boy Harry did well and looks to have a nice touch and he will be a very useful addition to the team for next season, Andrew with his cultured left foot, Steven strong in goal and both Bradley and Josh solid in defence. Ewan looks strong in a defensive central mid position but unfortunately Hutchie ran out convincing victors with the score line Hutchie .. 7 ACO .. 0 not telling the whole story but it was all too much for some of the boys to take, Rory found it hardest, getting a bit emotional about it all with three of his classmates lining up in the Hutchie ranks adding a twist but they will all come back much stronger from this experience and Jim's full time team talk certainly galvanised his troops that showed a togetherness about them not seen like this previously. The final was then to be contested by Hutchie and Preston Athletic who had both drawn one and won three. Jack was back between the sticks for this one and what a game - the level of football on display was very good and highly entertaining. The hosts ran out victorious in the end much to the delight of the people of Prestonpans, we won't comment on who ACO were supporting in the final, it finished Hutchie .. 1 Preston Athletic YFC .. 2 with the goals scored, all fairly impressive. A thoroughly enjoyable day that will be remembered for a long time to come and will do the boys the world of good for the experience of it all. Well done to all concerned, it was great. Iain Bruce |

AC Oxgangs ... 1 Hillfield Swifts .. 14
|
|
There has been a general consensus this ACO team have been operating in the wrong league this season and if any evidence was required, Hillfield Swifts probably provided it today. If anything, ACO probably started the brightest initially and James went wide after good play from a throw in but HS counter attacked well and Steven did well to save, turning it round for a corner. And Rory did well clearing the ball off the line when a goal looked certain after some HS pressure - they shot wide with the next one too but HS were looking dangerous - they played a lovely ball in to the area swung over from the left but the on running player couldn't get anything on the end of it. Steven had another good save but the ball went out for a corner. HS scored from the corner - it was a bit of a goalmouth scramble, HS managing to get the ball through the ruck of players to make it 0-1. HS went close not long after, hitting a powerful shot that came thumping off the crossbar. Steven did well commanding his area and came charging out to clear the danger but before long HS had another corner and scored from it, 0-2 in the 10th minute. The young ACO 'keeper produced another fine save from a long range shot. ACO got a goal and it followed a nice bit of play moving the ball from the back, James with the strike past the HS 'keeper, 1-2. Ewan was having an excellent game this morning and was mopping up in a defensive midfield role, putting it out for a corner on this occasion, HS hitting a post from it. HS were stroking the ball about well and had a good shape about them but the final ball was over the bar. The pressure told and the HS No.7 scored a peach, 1-3. There was nothing fancy about the next though, HS making it 1-4 with a scrappy goal but they all count. Jack took the ball on a run down the wing before having a dig at goal that went wide but it was a good
effort. James had a shot at goal shortly after but didn't quite strike it cleanly but HS hit on the break and it was 1-5 with a clinical
move. Rory had a crack at the other end with the ball going wide. The play moved back up the other end, Andrew putting it out for a corner which HS scored from
again = they were good at set pieces all right, 1-6 - and they got a seventh quite quickly after but the best of the half was about to come with a wonder goal from the right hand side that Steven could do nothing about. HS had another shortly after the break with good play from a throw in leading to a goal, 1-9. ACO were awarded a free kick which Josh took expertly just going wide to the 'keepers left but HS were maintaining the pressure and saw two shots go wide but the HS No.2 made no mistake when he rifled home an absolute cracker from a fair distance away 1-10. The amazing thing with this ACO side is the heads don't go down, it's maybe due to the conditioning they have endured this season in the Pele league but they don't chuck the towel in, they keep battling away and Jack showed that spirit going on a nice counter attack with the ball at his feet before shooting wide on that occasion. HS did get another one but this time it was probably against the run of play but that's what good sides can do to you,
1-11. It actually looked like it was going wide before hitting the far left corner. HS went wide from two corners before ACO started passing the ball about again and it was going end to end with Steven saving at one end before Rory forced the HS 'keeper into a good save at the other
end. Jack, having played a lovely pass to play him in, saw Rory
have another good shot saved and Josh went wide with a good shot
too. Rory was heavily involved at this point (and if he had played the whole game like this he would have been man of the
match) watching this one as it beat the 'keeper but unfortunately went over the bar too. HS had the same at the other end when Steven did well to put the HS striker off, coming out and making himself 'big' but they did get another shortly after and again it followed good play by ACO who were struggling to turn
their nice football into goals, 1-12. It was 1-13 quite soon after but it was 1-14 straight from the resultant kick off. ACO kept at it and Josh was unlucky to see another good shot saved and James too had a last crack at goal but neither could beat the HS 'keeper, Steven did well saving with the last shot of the game. Scorer : James Man of the Match : Ewan gets it today for his hard work and good defensive work, breaking up play and trying to link up play with the front players. Rory did well in the second half with some nice passing but good effort from everyone as the team was down to the bare bones personnel wise today. Bradley coming off his sick bed to help out, so well done to him for that too. Iain Bruce |

ACO were under no illusion as to the difficulty of the task in hand, Hutchie's reputation proceeding them as usual, so much so to the deficiencies in numbers ACO started with all eight available boys lining up against seven for the home side and ACO rarely showed glimpses of having that man advantage. This game proved to be more about the ACO 'keeper and the string of saves Steven was to make being the difference between a beating and a hammering, Steven's skill in goals keeping it to the former thankfully. HV had a shot early on but was too far out before Steven made a triple save from some HV attacking and HV went wide again after a nice cross from the left wing. These crosses were causing ACO some trouble and HV were unlucky not to get at least a toe on the next one that came over, Bradley doing well mopping up at the back too. HV kept the pressure up and Ewan did well to clear but the ball fell to the large No.10 who hit a spectacular shot from quite some distance to make it 1-0. They went wide again, but by the next attack it was 2-0 with a lovely turn and shot from their No.5 in the 9th min. Jack was doing well back helping out in defence clearing a ball out for a corner but unfortunately HV scored from a corner - Rory learning a lesson in marking at the same time with the diminutive ACO No.3 losing his marker who sneaked in at the back post to make it 3-0. The woodwork came to ACO's rescue at times, hitting the post on this occasion before putting the rebound over the bar. Jack was back helping out again, making a vital and indeed timely interception before HV went wide again. Josh looked on in anguish as his clearance came back off the inside of the post before going out for a
corner - the first shot came off the crossbar but the rebound was hit with some force, great goal, 4-0. Jack and James both saw shots saved within seconds of each other in what must have been ACO's first attempt on goal. HV made it 5 with a fierce shot that
Steven could do nothing about, 5-0 - but Steven did well making a double save just after
that. HV had another shot but this time it went across the face of goal with no takers. HV maintained the pressure in the second half coming close with a header then the subsequent rebound ... and went wide with the next shot too. Ewan did well getting a toe on the ball clearing the danger from the corner but Steven was there again making a fine double save but it wasn't long before the pressure told - but this one came from a counter attack after a spell of possession for ACO, HV scoring on the break 6-0. Steven did well again with a good save, then, when the ball came back to him, he looked lively tipping the ball over the bar. HV could have had another but amazingly missed with an open goal - but it was all HV just now and Robbie did well blocking at the back but it was seven shortly after with HV's good running and general work ethic on display. The big No.10 was always a threat and he played a high ball into the area before the crossbar came to ACO's aid again. But all their nice play in the area paid off with another making it 8-0. Steven had another good save but couldn't do anything about the next one with HV showing their skill drawing him out the area before slotting it home 9-0. The tenth came from another nice cross into the area - inch perfect for HV to slot it home 10-0. Steven kept his head up and kept pulling off the saves, this time a double save before Ewan did well again at the back. There was a variation to HV's goals, the next one was a good header from another nice cross 11-0. Steven did exceptionally well in the latter stages when some of the boys weren't back helping
out - a few with their heads down and others having run there hearts
out - but he produced a string of saves with, yet again, the crossbar playing it's part before HV went wide with the last play of the
game. Man of the Match : Steven for his fine display between the sticks. The HV coaching staff taking time to congratulate him on his performance at the final whistle was a nice touch. Well done. Iain Bruce |

MW showed their intentions right from the off with a close thing over the bar but found the breakthrough shortly after with a goal that started from a throw in. ACO were up against it as MW stroked the ball about nicely but the next goal came from another set piece, this time a corner, in the 7th minute 0-2. They almost made it three with a delightful ball across the face of goal and Steven had to look lively shortly after when he somehow saved using his knee or thigh but it was effective anyway. He could do nothing with the next one, it had the spectators purring, MW worked the ball around the area well before dispatching a strong shot on target 0-3. They were taking confidence from their performance and they saw a fierce long range effort come off the post with the 'keeper beaten. ACO would be disappointed with the next one though, 0-4 after a mix up in defence and in the 16th min MW extended
their lead to 5 after a poor pass out of the dreaded safety zone, 0-5. Robbie did well to clear another goal bound shot off the line and MW went just wide just
after. Ewan went wide at the other end when ACO had their first foray
of this half into the MW area, but MW showed their class with another strong, powerful goal from
their big No.7, 0-6 and they were to get one more in this half when they scored what can only be called an easy goal. MW scored almost immediately after the restart with a nice passing move, 0-8. They went wide again but had another in the net with a beautiful goal, the MW player going round Steven before slotting it away, 0-9. ACO were made to pay for the second time in the game with a mix up in the safety zone, 0-10. ACO eventually got on the score sheet although this one was a bit fortunate when Cameron played in a nice corner, the ball deflected of a MW defender to make it 1-10. MW should have had another when they somehow hit it wide when they had an open goal to shoot at, but they made no mistake about the next one when they hit ACO on a nice counter attacking move that culminated in a nice goal at the end of it, 1-11.
And needless to say it was MW who were to get the next and final goal of the game, again coming from a set piece, again a corner, again another MW goal!! Scorer : OG Man of the Match : Cameron - not his best game but still a lot more effort and enthusiasm than most. Iain Bruce |

It was the start of British Summertime but someone forgot to tell both the weather and a couple of the boys who looked like they had been cheated out of that extra hour in their bed's this morning. Jack was the first to actually put his foot on the ball and show some determination to drive his team forward with a nice run down the right wing - DBC clearing the danger before ACO got the ball into the area again with some nice work from a throw in. DBC cleared from two consecutive corners - the second one being a bit of a goalmouth scramble before DBC got it away. DBC tried a long range effort but Steven was equal to it with a lovely save. Jack had a crack at the other end but was just wide. It was end to end and DBC saw a good shot turned round the post by Steven, going out for a corner, that ACO dealt easily with. They didn't deal with the next bit of action in there box though with a bit of a mix up between the defenders letting DBC in to make it 0-1 after 12 minutes of the first half. Jack and Cameron combined well to work the ball but somehow DBC blocked the shot and it went out for a corner ACO couldn't convert it although James came close on two occasions just after with both shots going wide. DBC were leaving a player up front and it nearly paid off with a nice ball over the top to the unmarked player but Steven saw the danger and came charging out
of his area, winding the DBC striker with his momentum, the young lad getting to his feet shortly after.
Cameron had an opportunity as well but unfortunately his shot finished just wide.
Jack hit a really nice shot but was unlucky to see it going just over.
Rory was putting himself about and showing some grit in trying to win the ball back for his team but took a sore one on the thigh that thwarted his best efforts. DBC went wide in the early stages of the 2nd half before somehow swinging in a corner, in off the far post to get their second of the game, 0-2. ACO put a nice move together with some good passing play but again the final ball was wide from James but the young forward made no mistake when he stepped up to take a free kick just outside the DBC box after a clumsy challenge to make it 1-2 in the 9th minute. The DBC strategy of leaving the player up cost ACO when the long ball came over the top to the unmarked striker making it easy for him to score, 1-3. DBC were putting ACO under a bit of pressure and Steven did well to make two good saves in quick succession. ACO got caught with the ball over again, 1-4 after 13 minutes. James hit one wide when he had options to pass in the box but he looked lively when the 'keeper spilled the ball after a good shot by Jack - James nicked in to capitalise on the uncharacteristic DBC error to get one back, 2-4 - but ACO were made to pay when DBC scored straight from the resultant kick off, 2-5. Jack then James both saw their attempts on goal saved before DBC hit ACO on the counter attack with a nice move that finished with another good goal, 2-6.
No one was disappointed when the ref blew for full time with the rain quite heavy now. Scorer : James (2) Man of the
Match : Cameron for his tireless running and showing both industry and determination in not only breaking up the opposition play but when ACO were going forward too. Iain Bruce |

EC are one of the teams that ACO have done well competing against despite the score line saying different, ACO losing 10-2 to them the last time the two sides met at St. Marks. It was the visitors that started brightest and Cameron did well early on tracking the EC player all the way back and forcing him wide but it wasn't long before the deadlock had been broken and EC did well crowding the area with willing runners before one of them had the vision to lob Steven in the ACO goal, 0-1. EC almost got another from a corner but the player in the box somehow made contact with the ball using his knee, Steven relieved to see the ball go just wide on that occasion but could do nothing about the next
one - it was spectacular - from far out on the left hand side the EC player hit a quality strike, top right
corner, 0-3. It was all hands on deck when Rory popped up with a timely block taking a strong ball square on his chest, knocking the wind out of him but he did well to carry on without making an issue of it.
EC flung another quality ball over from the left but this went across the face of goal with no takers this
time. ACO were to go wide at the other end or the EC 'keeper may have got finger tips to Jack's shot after another nice pass from Cameron to put him
in. EC came up on the counter attack but the final shot ended in the side netting. The play was end to end at the start of the second half but James looked lively getting a toe on the end of a move that always looked like the 'keeper would be first to, nice goal 2-4. EC produced another good counter attack move that finished with a beautiful slide rule pass that should have finished with a goal but somehow the intended player was an inch behind it and couldn't get anything on it. Steven had a run of three saves that all ended up round the post and out for a corner but EC couldn't capitalise on any of them but the next corner of the game - the player taking it somehow slotted it in himself with an incredible in-swinger. 2-5. ACO had a throw in on the left hand side that got swept into the area and James popped up again to claim the match ball with his hat trick, 3-5. Andrew was doing well this morning and looked very assured as he shepherded the ball out when EC were pushing players forward but their pressure told once more, this one was another incredible goal, again coming from the left the player managing to score from an acute angle that looked impossible, 3-6. Jack was having a quieter game than normal by his own high standards but he showed a lovely bit of skill slipping a beautifully weighted ball through for James to rifle in for his and ACO's fourth of the game, 4-6 Josh had a good shot at goal as well, this one just going wide but there was one more goal in the game and it was
EC's. It was another of those in-swinging ones from the left again that Steven could do nothing about, 4-7, but the young 'keeper showed his skill preventing another one by coming out his area making himself big, blocking the shot before scooping it.
Rory had the last shot of the game but the EC 'keeper was equal to it, saving comfortably. Scorer : James (4) Man of the Match : James - who else after 4 goals, great work, well done. Iain Bruce |

ACO knew they would be in a game this morning as EH have won the last two encounters between these teams. EH are a well organised side that play some great crosses into the danger area's and can have a shot at goal from some distance too. ACO were struggling to get out their own half, being pressed back by EH who were keeping possession well and saw a good double save by Steven in the ACO goal before hitting another shot wide and had another one saved again. EH weren't going to give up and instead worked a nice ball up the wing, played a beautiful cross with a simple tap-in at the back post after a mistake in the ACO defence. 1-0. In one of ACO's first foray's into the EH half they managed the equaliser, Jack played a nice ball up into the path of James who looked composed slotting it past the EH 'keeper to his right hand side. 1-1. Steven did well to clear at the back coming charging out his area to mop up but EH got another goal in the 15th min with a shot from distance - Steven parried it but EH had players there to hit it on the rebound, 2-1. EH thought they had made it 3 but it was deemed not to have been over the line, the resultant shot going out for a corner
from which they managed comfortably to get their third anyway, 3-1. The useful EH No.9 was doing well this morning hitting a screamer that Steven was pleased to see go just over his bar and he did well again touching another good shot round the post for another corner. Josh had a shot at goal but the EH 'keeper, who hadn't had much to do, saved it well and the final action saw Steven save at the feet of an EH player. Second half changes saw Jack, Josh & Andrew off and Rory, Robbie & Ewan on. ACO enjoyed a good bit of possession at the start of the second half forcing two corners but nothing coming from either. EH went on the counter-attack with their No.6 going on a nice run with the ball at his feet - couldn't quite manouvre a goal from his run, but his good work forced a corner with EH extending their lead from it, 4-1. Josh played a nice ball in for James who had a good shot at goal but it went out for a corner and unfortunately couldn't make anything from it. The lively EH No.9 had a great shot at goal that came back off the post and as usual there were players there to hit it on the rebound but amazingly the rebound also hit the woodwork, coming off the bar to ACO's aid. But it wasn't long before EH had another and this one was clinical ... the No.9 put over a nice cross and the equally lively No.11 was at the back post to make it 5-1 ACO thought they had got one back when the EH reserve 'keeper juggled the ball about in the area before eventually getting to grips with the ball. Their No.9 was involved in the next one too playing the ball into the area knowing one of the runners would finish it off, 6-1. Rory was through on goal with the ball at his feet but an EH player made a strong challenge that flipped Rory up in the air and took a sore one as he landed, the ball apparently going out for a corner. But Rory was back on his feet and almost scored from it, lobbing the 'keeper but unfortunately the bar as well. EH made it 7-1 with another of those textbook crosses into the box and as usual there were players there to put it in the back of the net.
James had a chance to get one back but somehow sclaffed his shot wide when it looked easier to hit the target
- but these things will be ironed out, with this being the first fixture after the winter
break the boys are expected to be a bit rusty! EH got another one and this was an incredible
goal. The EH No.8 had a stunning strike at goal from some distance that Steven could do nothing about, 8-1
- but Steven did well producing a great save in the final action of the
game
Scorer : James Man of the Match : It's a difficult call this week with some of the nominees maybe only getting a half today but despite the score Steven did well in goals again today and is MOTM. Iain Bruce |

EC went just wide almost straight from the
kick-off, the ball going out for a corner, but EC could only hit the side net.
But before long they had the breakthrough with a nice move that started with a throw-in on the right, 0-1. Bradley did well at the back clearing his lines and ACO played the ball up the
pitch - James' shot being cleared out for the first corner of the 2nd half.
Josh had a ferocious shot well saved too and ACO were doing well.
James had a shot that went very close, but just when you think you're doing well against this side, they pop up with another goal! 2-8. Scorers : Rory, James. Man of the
Match : Hard call this
week - the last game before the winter break - but for shear audacity with his back to goal,
James gets it this week for his back-heeled
goal - great skill. Iain

They have a nice set up, down at Wardie and as would be expected from such a facility, they also have decent teams out on the pitches to match - strong, organised and quite a bit of skill on display too. They had a strong powerful shot at the ACO goal early on but it sailed over the bar as ACO were finding it hard to get out of their own half with DBC pressing forward.
They were good at playing crosses over from the bye line, a skill ACO could do with adding to
their game, and these passes were pinpoint and usually found a body in the
box ... Steven having to be on his toes this morning. Within 15 seconds of the second half DBC scored again, this time it was a nice piece of individual play with
their player going on a mazy run before slotting it into the left hand corner of the
net, 6-2. The same player got the next one as he was unmarked at the back post to head it
home, 7-2. ACO went close with James wide, then a goalmouth scramble that no one could stick a toe on, and DBC went on the counter
attack scoring a good goal to make it 8-2. DBC had a double corner - the first Steven saved with his face before the post came to ACO's rescue with the second. That's how it ended, ACO only had seven players to play this morning so
every one of them had to put in a shift as there were no substitutes to call on, so well done to all.
Scorers : James (2), Rory, Jack Man of the Match : Andrew was solid and composed, didn't get flustered, strong in defence and played some nice balls out when the midfield was congested, well done. Iain

The talent scouts were again evident this morning and there was plenty skill on show from both
sides ... thankfully the scoreline was a bit closer than the 17 goals ACO conceded last time they met.
There was a wee added twist in this fixture as Brandon, an ACO player last season, lined up against them as a Hutchie player but, as is often the way with Hutchie and their big squad, his game time would be severely restricted playing for his new team. It was 2-0 before long with a bit of a
flukey goal - again the ref's decision being decisive when a ball that looked like a goal-kick was deemed to be a Hutchie corner.
Hutchie played a ball across the ACO goal and then Brandon, dying to score against his old side had a good shot that went wide and moments later Hutchie had another attempt that finished wide. Given the fact there was 17 goals in it last time, at home, with it finishing 4-0 you think ACO would be pleased, but there was something about three of the goals and in the end 4-0 flattered Hutchie a wee bit .Definite signs of improvement from ACO though. Man of the
Match : Hard call this week with Rory doing well in the first half and Bradley too having a very good game this morning
- but James deserves it. Although his Dad and coach was exasperated at times with his decision making, with the ball at his feet, no one can fault him for his tireless running and all round work
ethic; he really put in a hardworking display and for that James is this weeks
MotM. Iain

The last time these two sides met, on the 9th of September at St Mark's, it was 1-8 for Leith so ACO were under no illusions as to how tricky this fixture would be. ACO have been playing a lot better recently so this game would be indicative as to where they are now. LA had a ball deflected out for a corner in the first minute but ACO dealt with it and got a corner
themselves but LA went on a sweeping counter attack which finished with a good goal after 2 mins, 1-0. ACO kept working away though and the LA goalie had to save a shot after nice attacking play from the ACO strikers but could only put it out for a corner.
The game swung up the other end and Bradley did really well putting the ball out for a corner and nullifying the threat. |
