End Of Season Troon Tour & Player Awards

June 2011

1997 blues Troon 2011

We are just back from an excellent tour to Troon where we won our first game and narrowly lost our second match [probably something to do with the late night/early morning had by all].

There will be no official match reports, just more of a tour report to remind the “traveling touch line faithful” and to keep all others up to date …

Troon Thistle u13s   1-1   AC Oxgangs (AC won 4-3 on penalties)

The weather was getting better the further west we drove and it stayed bright right up until kick off when the heavens opened. The conditions were difficult for both sides on a very slippy pitch with little grass on it.

A stalemate ensued until 8 minutes from time when a typical mazy run from Matty resulted with a shot that the keeper did well to get across to; unfortunately for him the ball spilled back out to Matty who finished from a near impossible angle. A stuffy Troon Thistle U13 team were not finished and promptly leveled the tie with a well worked, and ultimately deserved goal.

Full time 1-1

The respective coaches agreed to a penalty shoot out, and the only surprise is that it is not still going! ACO chose to take the 2nd penalties so when sudden death ensued we were also in with a chance of winning with the next kick due to the high miss ratio. One after one our trusted dead ball experts fluffed their lines and it was left to Royce, playing his penultimate match for the Blues, to not only save loads, but also score the winner. As you can imagine he was mobbed by his delighted team mates to the extent there was a real chance he would have to miss the following day’s game due to severe bruising from hearty pats on the back.

Troon Thistle u14s   4-2   AC Oxgangs

We were blessed with great weather on the Sunday morning, and all had the joy of watching the kids play beach football and rounders; will we ever see its like a’gin as we move to the grumpy teenagers know best/ that’s not cool/can we have a beer? years that hurtle towards us.

The nice man with the blank invoice pad said we were welcome back at the hotel anytime time and that he’d do us a deal [I thought we’d already done o.k.] so a return to the West may be an option in the future??? After all it was the best tour accommodation we have ever had. I just loved what they done with the décor in the Residents Lounge [answer-absolutely nothing since about 1977!].

As with the first match we created loads of good chances and Jamie went into the break one right foot finish short of the perfect hat trick. The boys competed well against a taller stronger Troon side from their U14 squad and led 2-0 at the break [should have been 3 but Jamie’s right footer from a “Gamble” ball was incorrectly deemed to be offside]. The Troon boss, also the referee, made 5 changes and strengthened all departments for the start of the 2nd half.

The Blues quickly conceded a soft goal and the scores were level after a mix up between Royce and Matty allowed their striker to roll into an empty net. There was still time for two great chances for our proper pair of Charlies, but both went askew. With the Red Bull slowly wearing off and the opposition continuing to pound forward down the hill the boys finally succumbed to two late goals and the game tailed off.

Full time 4-2
